NaPoWriMo 2017 Day Twenty Seven – Tasty Ghazal

It’s all about taste today at NaPoWriMo. The prompt wants us to explore our sense of taste. Literally? Figuratively? Well…I’ve been needing to unload this for awhile, now. Turn it into art, lest it fester.

We Were Friends, Once

Well, there is just no accounting for taste,
she said, expecting me to share her taste

in friends and chosen family deemed worthwhile,
acting like a child when given a taste

of her own medicine. Her narrow aisle
well-armed and sealed off to avoid the taste

of another’s salty fruit; her disdain
and sick-sweet envy leaves a sour taste

in my mouth. My character smeared again
by one who knew how bitter that would taste.
